Raktima is woven in deep madder red katan silk on a pit loom in Madanpura, Varanasi. The kadhwa buti is worked motif by motif rather than floated across the back, so each flower sits on the ground like an embroidery. The border carries a jhallar of paisley in real zari, and the pallu opens into a full jangla field that takes close to five months on the loom. Sold as a single piece with its unstitched blouse length.
